Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka has been on loan at Borussia Dortmund since the winter market and his future beyond this season needs to be clarified.
The Bundesliga club have an option to buy the 21-year-old, and last week Kicker stated they could exercise the €30m clause.
Sky Deutschland claim the buying option is at €35m and have played down the option of Dortmund paying this figure to Chelsea.
The midfielder has played 231 minutes from nine games for BVB. His playing time has been limited due to injuries but has impressed when given opportunities.
Dortmund are ‘enthusiastic and convinced’ of his qualities and are determined to retain Chukwuemeka, especially because they are looking to strengthen their midfield.
They are looking to lower the price during direct negotiations with the Blues. It’s unclear whether Chelsea would reduce the fee and if they don’t, Dortmund could ask another loan for Chukwuemeka.
He was limited to 130 minutes from five games from the UEFA Conference League and the EFL Cup at Chelsea this season. Enzo Maresca didn’t consider him for the Premier League.
The player’s restricted role at the west London club gives Dortmund hope of securing an agreement with Chelsea. A new loan could see Chukwuemeka enjoy regular minutes at BVB and at the same time, became a valuable asset for the Blues.
