Burnley’s move for Basel forward Zeki Amdouni is being warmly welcomed by the Swiss club, who are getting an ‘insane sum’ for the 22-year-old.
That’s according to Blick, who cover the impending €18m transfer today and how Basel are more than happy with the deal.
Several reports yesterday indicated that Burnley are closing in on a deal or Amdouni, with an €18m move on the cards as Vincent Kompany and co. look to bolster their squad for their return to the Premier League.
They explain that after selling Andy Diouf to Lens for €15m a few weeks ago, Amdouni will also be ‘flushing an incredible amount’ into Basel’s coffers.
The €18m Burnley seems to be prepared to pay for him is seen as an ‘insane sum’ for a player who, only two years ago, was still playing in the Challenge League, Switzerland’s second flight.
It is his performances in the Europa Conference League that seems to have attracted Burnley’s attention, with Vincent Kompany having ‘advocated a commitment’ this summer.
But whether he can live up to expectations remains to be seen. While the player has a keen eye for goals and is inventive, he is still lacking in terms of speed and physique.
Not that Basel care one bit. Amdouni’s sale will help reduce the structural deficit at the club and open up the transfer market for them to boot. As far as they’re concerned, this is a deal they can’t turn down.
