With Ivan Perisic heading to Tottenham on a free transfer, Inter were keen to hold onto Robin Gosens in the last transfer window.

The German defender had only joined in January on an 18-month loan from Atalanta with an obligation to buy, but Leicester City and Bayer Leverkusen were said to be interested.

Neither managed to get the 28-year-old, but that could change in January if Tuttosport, relayed by FC Inter News, are to be believed, as the Serie A side chase Ramy Bensebaini, currently at Borussia Monchengladbach.

Available on a free transfer at the end of the season, the Algeria international could replace Gosens, who could then be sold to the highest bidder, thus making a profit in the process.

The website claim Inter are ‘more and more convinced’ about moving for Bensebaini, and they could ‘attack as early as January’.

They would therefore need to pay a fee to get him, which could be funded by the sale of Gosens, whom Leicester were reportedly ready to return for.

The player has ‘never completely convinced’ Simone Inzaghi, and that’s why Inter ‘could decide to make an offer to Mönchengladbach or decide to monetise with Gosens and take a player on loan’ until the Algerian becomes a free agent.

Either way, a door seems to be opening for Leicester here, and we’ll have to wait and see how wide it becomes, as there’s no denying Brendan Rodgers and co. could do with some reinforcements in January.
