Nikola Vlasic, unable to make a hole for himself in David Moyes’ squad at West Ham United, was sent to Torino on loan for the season.
One of the main draws for the player was the possibility of working with his compatriot Ivan Juric, who immediately found the best way to use the versatile forward.
West Ham included an option to buy in the deal, and it quickly became clear that a permanent transfer could be on the cards, as it would suit all parties, and Calciomercato look at how this could get done on Thursday.
The Hammers set the price for €15m, which is starting to look like a decent fee considering the impact Vlasic has had in Turin, but, like many Serie A sides, money isn’t always plentiful.
Calciomercato explain that Juric, whom Torino want to renew, has made it ‘very clear’ that he wants to see what his squad will look like next year before renewing.
He wants both the West Ham loanee and Aleksei Miranchuk to be made permanent fixtures in the team to avoid similar issues to last summer, when Dennis Praet and Rolando Mandragora were sent back to their clubs after successful loans.
However, doing so would cost the Serie A side €27m, which is considered ‘an important figure’ for them, especially when they already have to spend €17m on Ivan Ilic and Nemanja Radonjic.
As things stand, both Urbano Cairo, the club’s president, and Davide Vagnati, their director of football, ‘have not closed the door to the redemptions’ of Vlasic and Miranchuk, especially as both players are ‘happy in Turin and would like to continue working with’ their current manager.
Therefore, the duo are ‘trying to figure out if there are margins to get discounts’ on both deals, but if they can’t, the alternative will be to sell one of their big names, such as Perr Schuurs.
