On Thursday, we relayed a grouping of information from a couple of Spanish outlets regarding Manchester City’s interest in Junior Firpo.
The Real Betis left-back has been of interest to Pep Guardiola and his scouts this season, and there’s a genuine worry over in Seville they could lose their new starlet come the end of the campaign.
The outlets stated the club had already highlighted Rayo Vallecano’s Alex Moreno as a replacement, with Mundo Deportivo even going as far as reporting a €5m offer being made.
What we didn’t see was an article on El Confidencial’s website, which takes a look in detail at the situation.
As things stand, only one club has come forward to express genuine interest, and that’s Real Madrid.
With Marcelo now on the wrong side of his 30s, the Spanish giants are thinking about the future of the left side of their defence, and Firpo is part of it.
Real Madrid, aware of his €50m release clause, have told Betis they are only prepared to pay €30m for the 22-year-old.
This is said to have been well received by the potential selling club, who, before accepting, are waiting to see if any other clubs, namely Manchester City, are willing to come in with an offer exceeding the aforementioned sum.
Seeing as Firpo’s agent is Pere Guardiola, we’re pretty sure his brother Pep will be aware of all this.
If El Confidencial are to be believed, then the ball is firmly in the Premier League club’s court.
