Nottingham Forest look set to take on Athletic Club during the World Cup, with the two clubs in contact over a possible friendly.
That’s according to El Correo, who provide details on the potential meeting between the two sides today.
They report that the Spanish club are ‘looking for strong opponents’ to face during the World Cup in order to keep the players who aren’t going to the tournament fresh.
They are already ‘in contact’ with Nottingham Forest to arrange a fixture, which would likely take place in the United Kingdom.
The Spanish side want to play four or five friendlies during the 40 day tournament in Qatar and have already secured two clashes against Mexican side Chivas and a local Segunda A club.
Ernesto Valverde wants his side to take on clubs ‘with greater attacking potential’ in order to provide a real test to his side and Nottingham Forest fit into that profile.
Indeed, talks are believed to be at an ‘advanced stage’ over the fixture, which would be the fourth meeting between the two clubs after games in 1959 and 1982.
