The tact of the Saudi Arabia transfer approach has somewhat changed this summer, or at least those are the messages coming from the country.
They don’t want their league to be seen as a retirement home for ageing footballers, somewhere they can go to bag a lot of cash without really putting too much effort in. Reading between the lines, it appears there’s been frustration with some of the earlier recruits perhaps seeing it all as a working holiday.
Therefore, moving for 32-year-old Son Heung-min may not fit in with that plan. The Tottenham player is certainly not edging in on retirement though, and is a huge name so would be an impressive signing.
He’s been on Saudi Arabia’s wanted list ‘for months’, although there’s no indication of what they’d want to pay Tottenham or the player.
Son’s contract with Spurs lasts until June 2025, with the club having the option to extend it by a further year.
