Wanting to make another splash on the transfer market before the window closes, Paris Saint-Germain were targeting Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva.
However, they faced the same problem Barcelona were presented with, which is that Pep Guardiola’s side aren’t overly open to a sale.
That’s why the Ligue 1 champions are now considering making a move for another player, who currently plays at Wolverhampton Wanderers: Leander Dendoncker.
This comes courtesy of both Le10 Sport and Media Foot in France, with the former focusing primarily on the Portuguese.
They state that after seeing their first bid for the Manchester City star refused, they ‘continue to think’ about what to do next, with Luis Campos mulling over two options.
The first would be to make a ‘better offer to try and break the lock’ put in place by the Premier League side by ‘getting close to €100m’, or to just simply delay their next move until after the World Cup.
The first is Stefan De Vrij for the centre-back role, but ‘another avenue is gaining weight’, with that being the Wolves man.
His versatility is key here, because Christophe Galtier ‘would like to lean on a fourth centre-back to play in the rotation of his three at the back formation, but also a midfielder, who can recover the ball’.
Since the Wolves man can do both, he fits the bill nicely, and there could be help from Jorge Mendes, close to Antero Henrique, Luis Campos and, of course, the Premier League club.
According to Media Foot, it would be the Portuguese super agent who is ‘talking to Paris Saint-Germain about Leander Dendoncker’ (even if he isn’t his contracted representative).
What also works in the Ligue 1 club’s favour is that the Belgian only has one year left on his contract at Molineux, making him a potentially cheap option.
Something to keep an eye on.
