Feyenoord are ‘considering getting concrete’ for Chelsea youngster Ian Maatsen this summer following his loan spell with Coventry City.

That’s according to Voetbal Primeur, citing 1908.nl, who say that the left-back ‘may be acquired’ by the Dutch side.

Maatsen has been with Chelsea since moving from PSV’s youth academy in 2018 after spells in the academies at Sparta and Feyenoord.

He’s yet to really feature for the Blues but has been starring out on loan with Coventry this season in the Championship, where regular playing time has seen him flourish.

He is due to return in the summer, and while Chelsea are under no pressure to sell as his current deal expires in 2024, a decision will have to be made about his future.

According to Voetbal Primeur, there is ‘little chance’ he will be given a go in Chelsea’s first team, and so Feyenoord are sensing an ‘opportunity’ to get a deal done.

Whether they are looking at a loan deal or a permanent move isn’t mentioned, but if it were to be the latter, it’s stated Chelsea would have to ‘add water to the wine’.

We’re taking means they’d have to offer a discounted or at least watered down deal that Feyenoord could afford, perhaps in terms of wages or a transfer fee.

It seems there’s nothing concrete at this moment in time anyway, but that could change, and they’re certainly interested in the Chelsea youngster.
