Last summer, Giorgi Chakvetadze arrived at Watford from KAA Gent on a loan deal with an option to buy.
The attacking midfielder has made 25 appearances this season, mainly as a substitute, with a goal and two assists to his name. Valérien Ismaël has used him across several positions and has started to give him regular minutes in the past few weeks.
Chakvetadze’s recent performances seem to have convinced Watford to make an effort to retain him beyond this season.
That’s at least what Het Laatste Nieuws are reporting, and explain that the Hornets have ‘now taken him over’ permanently. This will allow the Jupiler Pro League side to collect €2.5m from the English club.
The versatile player joined Gent from Georgian side Dinamo Tbilisi in 2017 and was considered one of the greatest talents at the Belgian club for a long time. Chakvetadze couldn’t live up to these expectations, partly due to injuries.
This resulted in two loan spells, before joining Watford on another temporary deal. HLN say Chakvetadze is ‘doing well’ this season at Vicarage Road, and hopefully he can start to fulfil his potential.
