Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director Roland Virkus has insisted they would be happy to sell Jordan Beyer to Burnley in the summer, as any fee would dry up tears over losing a homegrown talent.
Beyer is currently on loan with the Championship leaders, having moved to Turf Moor in the summer in search of regular playing time.
He’s found that with Burnley, establishing himself in the heart of Vincent Kompany’s defence this season with a series of impressive performances.
He is very much a man in vogue at the club, with some fans going as far as to going as far as to give him the nickname Beckenbeyer in reference to German legend Franz Beckenbauer.
The belief is that Burnley will want to sign the defender on a permanent basis in the summer but to do so they will need to negotiate a fee with Mönchengladbach having failed to insert a purchase clause into his loan deal.
Thus it will be up to the German side to sanction a deal, something Virkus insists they are more than happy to do if the situation arises.
“We have a good central defence with good back-ups. The boy had to be allowed to develop,” he told Rheinische Post regarding Beyer’s move to Burnley.
“When he was used, he usually did well, then he was often injured. So Jordan needed match toughness, the Championship with over 40 games is perfect for that.
“I know Burnley’s coach Vincent Kompany quite well, the coach knew Jordan quite well. So, it’s become a win-win situation, he’s playing brilliantly, Burnley are probably going up.
“I would be happy if he comes back to Gladbach as a seasoned player. And if Burnley possibly want to sign him permanently, then we have to talk if necessary.
“As I said, we would be happy if he came back. But it’s not always about what we want. If it comes to that, we would be happy to have trained a Premier League player and our weeping eye would be dried by a corresponding transfer fee. Therefore, it would not contradict our way.”
