Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen phoned Tottenham on Monday in an attempt to smooth over relations following Uli Hoeneß’ ill-advised comments.
That’s according to BILD, who explain that Bayern ‘want to save’ the potential deal for the striker after Hoeneß caused problems.
They explain that Daniel Levy was ‘surprised and angry’ by the Bayern boss’ recent comments suggesting Tottenham would have to give in and let Kane join the German champions this summer as he wanted the move.
Those comments cause ‘internal concern’ at the Allianz Arena, who believe Hoeneß ‘jeopardises the signing’ of the England captain, who has committed himself to the switch.
They’re so concerned that new CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen is said to have spoken to Levy on the phone on Monday afternoon.
He’s currently with Tottenham in Australia on their pre-season tour but Dreesen ‘wants to maintain the good contact’ that was established by Marco Neppe in a meeting last Thursday in London.
He also wants to ‘smooth the waters’ after Hoeneß’ comments, with him even telling journalists at a training camp in Rottach-Egern “if you’re friendly with each other, you get the best results.” Those comments were made before the call with Levy.
Dreesen was part of a secret team evening on Monday that involved President Herbert Hainer and Hoeneß, who is said to have ‘looked crestfallen’ because he thought his statements would be received differently. In fact, he thought he had spoken ‘respectfully’ about Levy.
Instead those positive comments were overshadowed by what came afterwards, leading to Levy’s displeasure and Dreesen’s phone call to ‘smooth the waters’ between Bayern and Tottenham.
