Girona are remaining calm regarding the increasing rumours about Savinho and a move to Manchester City, believing that an extended stay ‘cannot be ruled out’.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who cover the potential transfer today and the lack of concern at Girona at this moment in time.
Reports over the last few days have indicated that Manchester City are closing in on a deal for Savinho and plan to add him to Pep Guardiola’s squad for next season following his impressive performances in Spain this season.
All indications are that a deal is being worked out by Manchester City and their fellow teams in the City Football Group, with Savinho currently on loan at Girona from Troyes in France, another team in the network of teams.
Documents to make him a Manchester City player are being prepared but that does not surprise Girona, who are ‘calm’ about the rumours.
They hold monthly meetings with their fellow clubs and City Group CEO Ferran Soriano publicly insisted last year that Savinho would be playing in Spain this year and perhaps again in future.
They’re taking him on his word and betting on the fact Savinho is happy where he is and didn’t hesitate to stay despite offers coming in the January transfer window.
It ‘cannot be ruled out’ that even if Manchester City do buy him, he remains with the Spanish side for another year, particularly if they do qualify for the Champions League.
Thus, the rumours can swirl all they like, behind the scenes it’s calm, with the potential departure of a key player not causing the kind of waves one might have expected, at least as far as Mundo are concerned.
