Real Betis ‘have called’ Tottenham flop Giovani Lo Celso about a potential return to the club this summer, but fear being beaten to the Argentine to Napoli.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who cover the situation around the player today and Betis’ interest in getting him back.
They explain that with Sergio Canales on the verge of a move away from the Spanish club, that opens up the possibility of Betis entering the market to find a replacement.
The name they ‘particularly like’ is Lo Celso, who was a star at the club before his move to Tottenham in July 2020.
He’s set to leave London this summer after two loan moves to Villarreal but Betis ‘must be in a hurry’ if they really want to get hold of him.
They’ve already spoken to the midfielder, contacting him in mid-June to let him know that they would be ‘delighted to open the doors’ for him again if the circumstances arose to let them do so.
The sale of Canales is one such circumstance but there is competition, particularly from Serie A champions Napoli.
They’ve made the Tottenham man one of their main targets, with numerous reports in Italy making it clear they’re pushing to get a deal over the line as soon as possible.
That’s naturally a concern for Betis, who need to move quickly if they are to beat Napoli to his signature this summer. The ability to do that is dependent on Canales departing, which appears to be impending.
