Club Brugge star Joaquin Seys has insisted being drawn at home first in their Champions League tie with Aston Villa will not leave them at a disadvantage.
Voetbal Nieuws cover comments from Seys today after the Champions League draw paired Brugge up with Aston Villa on Friday.
The two sides are set to meet in the next stage of the competition next month, with Aston Villa travelling to Brugge for the first leg before then hosting their Belgian counterparts at Villa Park a week later.
Unai Emery’s side have already travelled to Brugge in the competition this season, losing 1-0 back in November when the two clubs met in the league phase.
That was a big win for the Belgian side at the time and they’ve gone from strength to strength since then, impressing against the likes of Manchester City and becoming one the surprise packages of this year’s competition.
Some have suggested that being drawn at home in the first leg has handed the advantage to Aston Villa, who can use their home crowd to their own cause in the return leg, but Seys is having none of that.
“I think that, just like against Atalanta, it is not bad that we start at home,” he said.
“It is not a handicap. We will be there immediately with the fans behind us, and that way we can perhaps travel to England with a bonus.
“The opponent didn’t matter much to me. Aston Villa is a strong team, and it will be a nice trip. We will get another chance to prove ourselves against a good club from the Premier League.”
