Having already spent a large sum of money on Sandro Tonali, Newcastle United are expected to make a few more signings this summer.
They won’t go down the Chelsea route due to FFP worries and the fact their owners seem a bit savvier than Todd Boehly, but that doesn’t mean big offers can’t be made under the right circumstances.
One club bracing themselves for an attack from Newcastle for one of their players are Lyon, as revealed by Foot Mercato.
The news comes within an article about how the Ligue 1 side are considering blocking an exit from Castello Lukeba to RB Leipzig, as the DNCG, the French league’s financial watchdog, are keeping a close eye on their books.
Since the offer from the Germans doesn’t match their demands, they aren’t going to sell for the sake of doing so.
However, a lot could change for Lukeba, especially if offers were to arrive for other players, including Rayan Cherki, seen as a target for Newcastle.
The promising forward finally had his breakthrough moments last season under Laurent Blanc, and started to live up to the huge expectations placed on his shoulders a few years back.
This, though, has come with a downside, which is that clubs, like Newcastle, are eyeing him up for a big transfer.
Seeing as Lukeba wants to leave, but cannot for the time being, Foot Mercato state the player ‘remains attentive to the financial situation’ of Lyon, who are ‘going to have to face’ a few ‘major attacks’ for some of their players.
That’s when Newcastle are mentioned with Rayan Cherki, while Paris Saint-Germain could move for Bradley Barcola and Al Shabab for Alexandre Lacazette.
Something to keep an eye on.
