Brazilian side São Paulo found themselves in a quite difficult situation at the end of Luizão’s contract. With the player willing to leave as a free agent, there was not a lot the Tricolor could do to avoid his move to West Ham United.
That’s why the club ended up accepting to just keep 15% of a future sale, as the Hammers made that offer to anticipate his arrival to early January, instead of the end of the month.
This situation is today explained by Gazeta Esportiva, who claims the talks between São Paulo and West Ham were actually complicated.
The Brazilian club were trying to get a fee for his transfer, and even stopped responding to the Hammers’ intermediary at a point. The London side knew there was no need to pay, as they could wait until the end of January, and didn’t offer any money.
Still, São Paulo believe they can have a ‘considerable profit’ with this percentage they ended up accepting. That’s because Luizão is joining a ‘traditional club’, who can ‘negotiate with another European side of bigger expression’ in case he succeeds.
So despite the hard feelings, the Tricolor have every reason to hope Luizão does well at West Ham. According to Gazeta Esportiva, only the medicals are left for the move to be official.
