After a rather successful spell at Tottenham on loan from Barcelona, Clément Lenglet returned to Catalonia with no agreement reached regarding a permanent transfer.
Spurs and the La Liga side haven’t given up hope on sorting something out, however, even if the ideas from the two clubs are different.
Sport in Spain give us the latest on the situation following claims that Tottenham, where Daniel Levy is always searching for a good deal, wanted to try and get the Frenchman for free.
Their idea was to wait a bit and see if the La Liga side would end up rescinding the defender’s contract, much like they did with Samuel Umtiti, but that hasn’t happened as of yet.
Then came an article on Tuesday stating Tottenham were offering €10m for the player, while Barcelona wanted €15m.
That was just a €5m difference, and an update on Tuesday from Sport reveals the Camp Nou residents are hoping ‘to close the transfer of Lenglet this week’.
While there is currently ‘no definitive agreement’, it’s said Barcelona ‘could give in to close a transfer of just over €10m fixed plus five in variable that are collectable’.
Any transfer would see Lenglet become ‘one of the best paid’ in the squad, and ‘this enormous effort’ means they want the transfer fee to be as low as possible.
That’s why a reduction from €15m to €10m + bonuses would make sense, although that does still sound a little steep for a transfer Daniel Levy will be negotiating.
