Celtic defender Gustaf Lagerbielke has lost prominence under Brendan Rodgers in the last three months and Lecce are willing to offer him an escape route in the winter market.
On Monday, journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported the Serie A side have initiated contact with Celtic over a loan deal for the left-back. Pianeta Lecce relay that and then share their own take on this case.
Lecce are aiming to sign the Celtic player on a dry loan deal and negotiations have started with Brendan Rodgers’ side.
In the summer of 2022, the Italian club signed Samuel Umtiti on loan from Barcelona. The report points out Lecce sporting director Pantaleo Corvino convinced the La Liga side to pay his full salary last season and would like to replicate the same deal for Lagerbielke.
To be clear, the report states: ‘Corvino would like to replicate the coup made with Barcelona to have Umtiti and therefore aims to get 100% of the salary paid by Celtic.’
This would make a potential deal ‘difficult but not impossible’. It’s claimed Lecce have an excellent relationship with the Sweden international’s agent and this could help them find a solution with Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Claims elsewhere have said the fullback earns €50,000 per month at Celtic Park, meaning it would cost the Serie A side €300,000 to if they were to pay his full wages.
Of course, none of this seems a remotely attractive deal for Celtic.
