Chris Smalling joined AS Roma on loan from Manchester United and has started six games for the Italian side. The club have only conceded seven goals in the league this season.

Roma’s defence took a blow with Kostas Manolas’ exit in the summer, however, the arrival of Smalling has negated the loss.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports he’s conquered everyone at the Serie A side and in addition to this, the performances of Gianluca Mancini and Federico Fazio have grown exponentially because of the Manchester United owned defender.

It is no surprise Roma intend to sign the centre-back on a permanent transfer after initially spending €3m on his loan deal.

Smalling’s contract with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side expires in 2022 and the report states negotiations with United ‘will not be easy’ for Roma.

The Red Devils have set a base price of €20m for the player, who will turn 30 later this month.

Smalling is enjoying his life in Italy and at the club, and Roma are still hoping to sign him on a permanent deal, but know it’s the player’s wishes which will be decisive.
