It seems there’s still belief in Brazil that Newcastle United could soon be making an attempt for the signing of Santos starlet Angelo.
That’s today reported by TNT Sports, who brings the latest on the race for the youngster.
The outlet starts by saying that Flamengo are preparing a new bid for the player, but not willing to sell him to another Brazilian club, Santos are actually ‘awaiting proposals’ from the likes of Newcastle and Nottingham Forest.
Angelo hasn’t had a good relationship with club fans lately, and that’s why his staff now believes the best for him is to leave the club.
That should therefore make it easier for any clubs who want to sign him.
Regarding the talks with Flamengo, it’s claimed that Santos already turned down an €8m bid, and request €13m plus 20% of a future transfer.
That’s undoubtedly an amount Newcastle could cover, with the Magpies having some advantage for being a club from abroad as well.
So it all seems like a matter of coming for the signing again, as they had already been linked to him many times in the past few months.
Now despite this story, we saw this week Angelo’s agent denying any contacts with Premier League sides.
“At the moment, it’s all speculation. There’s nothing. Angelo doesn’t even talk about playing abroad, he talks a lot about Santos, he’s focused here. Now that he’s at Santos, he doesn’t think about that,” said Marisa Alija.
Therefore, we better wait and see if that’s not something trying to convince Flamengo of paying up to get the signing done.
