Napoli may be eyeing a move for Chelsea defender Ian Maatsen, with initial conversations having taken place regarding the full-back.
That’s according to journalist Rudy Galetti, who has been speaking to Area Napoli regarding a potential effort in the January transfer window.
Maatsen returned to Chelsea in the summer following a loan spell at Burnley last season, where he was a key player as Vincent Kompany’s side romped to the Championship title and promotion to the Premier League.
He had been expected to move to Turf Moor permanently but that didn’t end up happening as a deal could not be agreed and he remained at Chelsea.
He’s barely featured under Mauricio Pochettino this season, though, featuring in just 9% of the available minutes in the Premier League so far.
That’s led to speculation he is not a part of the Argentine’s plans moving forwards and could leave Chelsea in the coming weeks as a result.
One potential destination could be Napoli, according to Galetti, who says they are very much looking into the possibility of a deal.
“Chelsea is working to lighten the squad in view of the January transfer window due to Financial Fair Play. Among the names is also out Ian Maatsen,” he said.
“West Ham and two other English clubs are strong on the Dutch full-back. But also pay attention to Napoli who have asked for information on the feasibility of the operation. The player’s price is around €15-20m.
“At the moment there are no contacts advanced but Maatsen is also liked for his young age. A profile that the Italian scouts like.”
