While Manchester United negotiated the signing of Antony from Ajax, we’ve seen the Brazilian media making big coverage of the saga.
That’s not just because the winger is a national team player, but also due to the money São Paulo would get from the transfer.
Besides being the 22-year-old’s youth club, they also had the right on 20% of the profit the Dutch side made with the move, and are expected to make around €17m with the transaction.
It’s well known that Manchester United are set to pay for Antony over five years, but it turns out that, according to reports from Brazil today, São Paulo are in a hurry to receive that first instalment.
Jorge Nicola today explains that the Brazilian club have had pending image right payments with their squad for a long time, and their president Julio Casares promised the debt would be settled with the money from that move.
The journalist spoke to the official, who claimed they still haven’t received their part, as it’s expected to arrive between the end of September and the start of October.
It turns out that São Paulo are playing the Copa Sudamericana final on the 1st of October, so they want their squad to be fully paid before that, and now ‘try to convince’ Manchester United of anticipating that money.
According to Nicola, the Tricolor are making right now around €7m as Antony’s youth club and other €3.5m from that instalment.
