Matteo Guendouzi’s season was cut short by a few weeks after he suffered an injury in Hertha Berlin’s 3-0 win over SC Freiburg on May 6th.

After his loan spell with the Bundesliga side expires, the midfielder will have to return to his parent club, Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta didn’t include the 22-year-old in his plans for this season and that’s unlikely to change for the next campaign.

Four days ago, we covered claims made by La Province, explaining the Frenchman will have to leave the Gunners in the summer.

The newspaper had also stated the Arsenal owned player ‘isn’t indifferent to the prospect’ of joining Marseille. The Ligue 1 side’s effort to sign Guendouzi is now detailed by Le10 Sport.

It’s claimed the path ‘now looks to be clearing up’ for Jorge Sampaoli’s side, towards signing the former Lorient man. He’s been tracked by the French club for several weeks, although the deal is nowhere close to being finalised.

Le10 adds there could be a ‘positive outcome’ in the coming weeks, after the season is completed.

Guendouzi has a year left on his contract at the north London club and Arteta’s side are expected to make him available in the market.

The time left on his current deal with Arsenal helps Marseille ‘appear to be in a good position’ to land the player, for a price that suits them.
