After what appears to have been weeks of negotiations, it has been announced that Florian Thauvin will not be playing for Newcastle next season.

Already sent on loan to his former club Marseille for the second half of last year’s Premier League, the young winger will once again return to the south of France for another loan spell.

Talk of a move to Lazio was rife during the brief period when the Serie A side thought they would be getting Marcelo Bielsa as their new coach, but these rumours, despite lingering a bit longer than expected, eventually went away

The Ligue 1 side, who were holding a press conference on Thursday morning to present the new recruits, among other things, announced the deal, saying it had been sealed just before the start of the media gathering.

No official details were given, but France Football published an article on their website an hour previously saying the deal was done, claiming it was a season long loan with a view to buy the player back permanently for around €11m (£9.2m).

Considering the player left Marseille a season ago for £13m, this is good business from the French club, who look to make profits wherever they can during a financially dire period.
