To no one’s surprise, Jorginho, whose contract at Chelsea expires in June of next year, is a wanted man on the transfer market.
The Italy international is currently in that grey area where he could try and seek a free transfer away from Stamford Bridge from January onwards, or simply renew and extend his stay with the Blues.
Chelsea will want to know sooner or later what happens, while Barcelona, who are interested, are already making their move.
This comes courtesy of Sport, who state the La Liga side are ‘already negotiating’ with the Premier League midfielder about a potential move to Catalonia.
It had been previously reported that his agent had met with Mateu Alemany, and the Chelsea star is a player Xavi ‘likes and who meets a series of basic requirements to sign’.
The manager sees him as potentially occupying a ‘fundamental position’ in his plans, which is why Barcelona have ‘already taken the appropriates steps’ regarding a potential contract in Spain, all the while ‘waiting to finalise the agreement’.
Since joining Chelsea from Napoli, the 30-year-old has made 204 appearances, scored 29 goals and assisted another nine for the Stamford Bridge side in all competitions.
