Borussia Dortmund ‘have already inquired’ about a move to sign Sergio Reguilón from Tottenham in the January transfer window.

That’s according to journalist Patrick Berger, who provides the details on the potential move today and why the Spaniard is being targeted.

We covered a report from Germany yesterday that explained how Dortmund were on the hunt for a left-back and had turned their attention to Reguilón, who is currently on loan at Manchester United from Tottenham.

It was explained in that report that he was considered a cheap option and more viable than Real Madrid’s Fran Garcia and so was being considered.

Sky and Berger follow that up today and explain Dortmund are not completely satisfied with Ramy Bensebaini’s performances this season and, with him set to be at the African Cup of Nations in January as well, they want to find cover.

That has been confirmed by coach Edin Terzic, who admitted they will look to the market and financially sensible deals in January.

That is where Reguilón comes in. He is the second name on their list behind Garcia, according to Sky, but potentially more financially viable.

He’s on loan at Manchester United from Tottenham but has a clause allowing him to end that at any time, something it seems he will do given he’s played 90 minutes once this season. Another loan could therefore be possible and that would suit Dortmund, who have already made moves.

“The budget is very narrow at five to six million euros. Sebastian Kehl has to be very creative and will most likely be with a loan,” explained Berger.

“The Spaniard could become a topic in the next few days if BVB gets in touch. Dortmund has already inquired about the player.”
