Real Betis have ‘already contacted’ Giovani Lo Celso about a potential return from Tottenham this summer, as the Argentine continues to hint at a move on social media.
That’s according to Diario de Sevilla, who cover the situation around the midfielder today as he continues to be linked with a return to his former club.
They explain that Lo Celso is ‘one of the names that sounds’ on the market for Betis, who have ‘already contacted’ him about a potential transfer.
That’s not currently on the cards thanks to the Spanish club’s finances and the fact their salary limit has already been exceeded. That, coupled with the €25m Tottenham want for him, means a deal is ‘unthinkable’ at present.
That has not stopped the midfielder from continually hinting at the possibility of it happening and he has ‘not stopped winking’ about it on social media, commenting on player’s posts and sending messages to some of his former teammates.
He’s very much hinting that he wants to return to Betis but, at this moment in time, the finances don’t fit for the Spanish side.
That doesn’t mean it’s off the table and director of football Ramón Planes continues to work on the matter behind the scenes.
Indeed, he was recently asked about the situation and has called for patience, hinting there may be time for a deal with Tottenham further into the window.
“Betis is in a process of growth and that is achieved by incorporating new players,” he is quoted as saying.
“Today it is not time to talk about Lo Celso He is a player of a high level, but we have to be attentive to any possibility in case the option appears. Now we are in a very early market moment.
“Patience is a virtue of good sports management. Sometimes you have to be brave to make a decision when you see an opportunity, but you have to play with that point of calm and tranquility,
“Experience tells us that in the last days of the market opportunities may appear interesting and you have to keep an eye on them.”
