Raphaël Varane is scheduled to join Real Madrid training this week and Marca state he will return to club with the proposal ‘under his arm’ from Manchester United.

The 28-year-old wants the two clubs to sort out the negotiations and if an agreement is reached between them, he can then move to Old Trafford.

Los Blancos are ‘afraid’ the defender ‘already has an agreement’ in place with the English club.

However, those close him keep suggesting there will be more clarity on his future once he returns to pre-season training.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side have long made it clear the centre-back will be sold if he doesn’t agree to their renewal proposal, in order to avoid letting him leave for free in 2022, and the player also has a similar idea, with his last option being to stay in Madrid and run down his contract.

The Frenchman would either prefer to ‘accept’ United’s offer [if both clubs agree a deal] or to renew with Real Madrid, if they offer an interesting proposal. The latter seems unlikely so far since the La Liga side aren’t willing to improve their offer.

Taking the duration left on Varane’s contract into account, United want to make a lower proposal.

Real Madrid don’t want to sell badly and even though the pandemic has made it difficult for them in the market, they aren’t willing to give the former Lens away for cheap.

This means we have interesting days and weeks ahead as Varane has left everything in the hands of the two clubs.
