Antoine Griezmann has been a fully fledged Atletico Madrid star for a couple of years, making him one of the most wanted attackers in European football.

But his potential has never made him an easy target, especially because Atletico’s efforts to keep him have kept most clubs away from the player.

That’s a reason why there haven’t been many sides outside of the very biggest said to be close on him. Lately, it’s been mainly Manchester United and Barcelona said to have the conditions to take him from the Spanish capital.

Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban this year has made the player stay at the club for a little longer. But his departure seems likely next summer, and that’s why those interested are starting to analyse the competition, as the race gets hotter.

According to Marca, Barcelona are starting to get worried that all this competition could create a big auction for the French international, despite his €100m release clause.

The Catalan side are expecting Griezmann will get offers from Bayern Munich and the most powerful clubs in the Premier League, which would be Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United.

Meanwhile, PSG would be considered out of the race, as they are happy with their current squad.

Besides the general competition, there are two major problems for Barça. Manchester United get a special mention for being the club who have more financial power to land the striker. And another difficulty is that Griezmann wouldn’t be the star at the Catalan club, something he could achieve elsewhere.

Marca even created a poll for people to guess where will Griezmann play next season. At the time we wrote this story, United and Barcelona were both tied with 36% each, after more than 32,000 votes.
