Norwich City included a sell-on clause when Borja Sainz completed his move to FC Porto last summer. However, the Portuguese side still have a way to reduce its impact before the end of the current season.

The news comes from details published by Porto on their official transparency portal, and relayed by O Jogo. Norwich City kept 20% of any future profit from a potential sale of the Spanish winger. Porto, however, hold the option to buy back half of that (10% of the total profit) for €1.5m during this campaign.

That clause could make a big difference in future negotiations. If Porto one day sell Sainz for €50m – which represents half of his release clause – Norwich would currently be entitled to around €7.34m. If Porto exercise their option, that amount would fall to roughly €3.67m.

For Porto, paying €1.5m now would more than double the value of their investment in those rights.

It would also give André Villas-Boas’ board more control over future deals involving the 24-year-old Spaniard, who joined Norwich City from Alavés in 2024.
