Loaned to Anderlecht for the season, Matt Miazga made one thing very clear towards the end of the campaign: his future isn’t at Chelsea.

The United States international has never managed to break through at Stamford Bridge since his move from New York Red Bulls in 2016, and loans ensued.

The player can boast having played for Vitesse in Holland, Nantes in France, Reading in England as well as Anderlecht in Belgium, but with a contract at Chelsea ending in 2022, his future lies elsewhere.

However, according to information from Het Nieuwsblad and SudPresse, relayed by VoetbalNieuws, Miazga will not be returning to Vincent Kompany’s side.

They write Anderlecht have ‘abandoned that plan’, and ‘there is no question of an extension for the time being’.

A new loan would have been an easy enough deal to pull off, but a permanent transfer ‘was probably too costly an operation’ as ‘resources remain limited’.

This suggests that Anderlecht ‘will therefore focus on other avenues’, and that Chelsea are now going to have to find Miazga a new club this summer.
