Because of his lack of game time out on loan, Arsenal have been trying to get Nuno Tavares back to find him another club.

Marseille have kindly stepped forward as an option for the Portuguese man, who already knows the French club from his spell there last year.

The problem, according to L’Equipe, is that the Arsenal loanee is not the only one on the list in the south of France, and that is why he’s not guaranteed the move.

The newspaper explain that the club president, Pablo Longoria, would like the return of Tavares, despite the fact he ‘disappointed’ Igor Tudor, then-manager, leading to their former director of football, Javier Ribalta, being ‘acid’ in his behaviour with the player’s agents.

As we all know, though, things change quickly in football, and while Longoria sometimes claims that he doesn’t have the final say, but general director Stéphane Teissier does, that isn’t exactly the truth as he remains the top decision maker.

While Teissier wants Quentin Merlin from Nantes to be the signing at left-back, the president wants the Arsenal man.

That’s why a source close to the club told L’Equipe there is currently a ’50-50’ chance of it being Tavares or the French defender holding the club scarf come the end of the transfer window

This means we can expect this story to drag on for a few more days.
