Earlier on Monday, LaRoma24 reported that Aston Villa’s Leon Bailey is close to joining AS Roma and the move is in the final stages.
There was belief the Jamaica international could even undergo a medical at the Italian side in the next two days.
Gianluca di Marzio now reports that with Roma’s move for Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho having fallen through, the Giallorossi are working to finalise a move for the Aston Villa winger.
Contacts between the two clubs are ongoing and the deal is getting ‘closer and closer’ to completion.
The journalist doesn’t provide information about the terms of the move, but Corriere dello Sport indicated last week that Roma and Aston Villa were discussing an initial loan deal with the option to buy.
The 28-year-old winger’s contract at the Birmingham club expires in the summer of 2027 and his prominence under Unai Emery reduced last season, when he scored once and assisted twice in 24 Premier League games.
Roma could be a good opportunity for Bailey, especially considering Gian Piero Gasperini’s ability to bring the most out of attacking players.
