Jurgen Klopp reportedly wants to sign an attacking midfielder this summer, with Bayern Munich’s Mario Gotze on the top of his wishlist.
The German star is taking his time to see if offers from other clubs arrive, and that could force Liverpool to look elsewhere.
Moroccan international Sofiane Boufal has been in impressive form this season, and Liverpool have identified the Lille star as an alternative to Gotze, Foot Mercato reports.
It is reported Liverpool scouted Boufal ‘over a dozen times’ this season, and could offer more than €20m for the Ligue 1 star.
Liverpool, however, are likely to face competition from Inter and Borussia Dortmund, whilst French champions Paris-Saint Germain have also been linked.
Boufal has 12 goals and 4 assists to his name this season in 35 appearances, and is highly rated in France.
The player signed for Lille at the start of the season in a €3m deal, and a transfer to Liverpool or another top European club could be a win-win situation for all parties involved.
The 22-year-old has three years left in his contract at Lille, and a transfer to Liverpool could be appealing, as he could further develop under Jurgen Klopp.
