Bayern Munich are planning a January transfer approach for Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi. He’s seen as an opportunity that shouldn’t be passed up.
That’s according to the Bayern Insider podcast, and journalist Christian Falk, who reports that Bayern intend to move for the centre-back.
Guehi is now one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe thanks to his performances for Crystal Palace in recent years.
He was close to joining Liverpool in the summer before Oliver Glasner blocked the deal at the end of the window.
The focus is now on where he ends up, with his current deal expiring next summer. Liverpool are still eyeing a move, while he’s also been linked to Real Madrid. The Spanish giants’ love for a free transfer is well known at this point.
Crystal Palace opportunity tempting
Bayern were also pulled into the mix this week. They’re yet to secure Dayot Upamecano to a new deal and Kim Min-jae would be allowed to leave if the right offer arrived. They would be tempted by a free transfer themselves.
And it is that aspect which has them in the mix, according to Falk. He reports that they simply see the Crystal Palace man as an opportunity that’s worth a shot at.
“He’s very, very interesting for Bayern. Max Eberl actually wanted to lure him over in the summer, but they would have had to sell Kim Min-jae Kim. That didn’t happen,” he said.
“The good thing is that this time he’ll be free this summer, which is what makes him so incredibly attractive. And I heard the player has made it clear that he definitely wants to leave in the summer.
“That’s why he’s currently a hot topic, and there are a few candidates who would like him.
“There are a few, I think Liverpool and Real Madrid are the main ones. His contract is running out. Bayern have a very clear plan, starting January 1st, when they can officially talk to him.
“They want to approach him, they want to try it, and they have to try for him. A free England international, if you have the chance, at that age, when the door is open, then you have to go for it as FC Bayern. Yes, of course, others have him on their radar as well.”
