Coventry City star Viktor Gyökeres has admitted he is ready to make the step up after months of being linked with a move to Everton.

The Swedish forward has been in fine form for the Championship side again this season, with 18 goals and eight assists in 38 games in the league this season.

It has continued his fine form from last year, in which he bagged 18 goals and five assists in 47 games in all competitions for the Sky Blues.

Those kind of goalscoring numbers mean he has long been linked with a step up to the Premier League, with Everton one of the sides thought to be keen on him.

They were first linked at the end of the summer transfer window, although that speculation was dismissed in Sweden at the time.

Their interest was seemingly revived in the January transfer window as the Toffees desperately sought a striker to replace Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has again spent much of the campaign on the treatment table.

A move never happened, with it later explained that a deal for Everton was more likely in the summer transfer window coming than the winter one.

Whether they do move remains to be seen but if they decide Gyökeres is the man they want, it seems he’s more than ready to step up from Coventry.

“It has gone well and felt good for me,” he told Aftonbladet.

“I have scored some goals and assists, and we have won most of the games. Of course you want to play in the best leagues.

“But you have to take it after the season, now I just try to focus on Coventry and try to go up with them. But it is clear that I aim higher.

“Of course it would be nice to play there (the Premier League), but I don’t think about it too much. I can play in some other leagues too.”
