Following the rumours which said Sporting are interested in the signing of Southampton defender Lyanco, the Portuguese media comes up with a response today.

Outlet A Bola features a piece to dismiss any chances of a move.

It’s claimed that there hasn’t been any contacts from Sporting for the move, and even if there was, it seems they wouldn’t have much of a chance to land the 24-year-old.

According to A Bola, Lyanco’s plan is to stay in England, where he has a contract with the Saints running until 2025.

Lyanco joined Southampton on a €7.5m move from Torino last summer.

It took a while until he finally got a chance to play for the club, and following his 10 appearances this season, he was sidelined since the end of December due to a Coronavirus infection.

It would indeed be strange to see him leaving the club so shortly after his arrival, so it makes sense that Sporting didn’t try for his signing since his desire is to stay for longer.
