There are claims in the Italian media that Marten de Roon has agreed to sign for Atalanta. The Netherlands international has been linked with a return to his former club throughout this summer.

Gazzamercato, the less responsible younger brother of Gazzetta dello Sport, report De Roon has accepted a four year deal from the Serie A side, following claims the Middlesbrough player would welcome a move back to Atalanta.

The Italian club are keen to bring in a central midfielder this window, and the Dutchman has been their prime target in recent weeks.

However, despite De Roon agreeing to join Atalanta his move still depends on Middlesbrough coming to an agreement over the transfer. The Championship side are holding out for €17m for the player, but Atalanta have offered just €11m plus bonuses.

It’s easy to doubt De Roon is quite as keen as the Italian media insist he is, and that theory won’t be tested until Atalanta come up with a reasonable offer.
