Towards the end of the transfer window, a report emerged in France that Leicester City had made a €16m bid for Stade Brestois’ Ibrahima Diallo.

The news came from a small podcast about the Ligue 1 side, and we covered it as it was quite a big claim from such an unusual source, explaining there wasn’t much point in making such a story up.

Well, it appears they were correct, as local newspaper Le Télégramme have now confirmed an offer from Brendan Rodgers’ side was indeed made for the young defensive midfielder.

Diallo, who will turn 21 in early March, had previously been reported as wanting to finish the season with his club instead of leaving in January, and he remained true to his word.

Le Télégramme stated over the weekend that Leicester had put money on the table, but were turned down by both Brest and the player.

This came a week or so after the club’s Director of Football, Grégory Lorenzi, told Foot Mercato on January 24th there would be no exits during the winter transfer window.

It seems no one lied, and Diallo will now finish the 2019-20 campaign in Brittany, and we’ll have to just wait and see if Leicester come back for another attempt in June in hope of being more successful the second time around.
