Ivan Perišić left Inter Milan as a free agent and completed a move to Tottenham Hotspur last summer.
The left wing-back played under Antonio Conte at Inter for two years and the move to north London saw him reunite with the manager.
Conte’s future at Tottenham remains uncertain after their Champions League exit earlier this week.
On Thursday, Corriere della Sera reported the former Chelsea manager’s relationship with Spurs is at an all-time low and he could leave the club when his contract expires in June.
Italian journalist Marco Barzaghi states the Croatia international could follow Conte out of the north London club. He made this claim on his YouTube channel and FcInter1908 have relayed his quotes.
“Even in the first leg [against AC Milan] we said it would be difficult to see him again like in the last season and that from then on there would always be a downside,” Barzaghi said.
“He [Perišić] too would like to return, above all because he understood that Conte is leaving at the end of the season, and things could get even more complicated for him: He, like Hakimi himself, as they confide to his former teammates, would like to return. I don’t think Perišić expected such a modest adventure in the Premier League.”
Last November, the player revealed he misses the Serie A side, and Italy will always be his home. Inter can take advantage of his affection towards the city and the club, if they have an interest in bringing him back to the San Siro.
Perišić has nine assists from 35 matches in all competitions this season for Tottenham.
