For the past week or so, claims from Italy and elsewhere have talked about Leeds United’s interest in Spezia Calcio goalkeeper Bartłomiej Drągowski.
On January 11th, TuttoMercatoWeb reported the Whites like the 26-year-old a lot. A day later, journalist Dominik Schneider said Leeds aren’t put off by his salary of over €1m net per year.
On Tuesday, we relayed news from Italy that Leeds are in pole position to sign the stopper and are waiting to sell Illan Meslier before making an approach for him this month.
Il Secolo XIX, relayed by Fiorentina.it, states the Poland international is leaving Spezia and ‘could join’ Daniel Farke’s side in the winter market. They also claim he has received offers from France, where Rennes would be one of the clubs chasing him.
With several claims talking about Leeds United interest in the goalkeeper, Sportitalia got in touch with Spezia sporting director Eduardo Macía for an update.
When specifically asked about Leeds, he sat on the fence and said: “Nothing concrete, we’re going our own way.”
Drągowski’s current deal lasts until 2025 and he’s made 14 appearances this season. He lost his place at Spezia to Jeroen Zoet at the end of November and hasn’t featured for the club since then.
