Emiliano Martínez ‘deserves a change’ from Aston Villa as their ‘failings’ are stopping him from showing himself in a good light.
That’s according to Argentina’s edition of Marca, who state that Martínez needs a move away from Villa Park after the loss to Arsenal on Saturday.
The Gunners ran out 4-2 winners at Villa Park in arguably one of the games of the weekend, with Aston Villa twice taking the lead before Arsenal battled back then struck late through Jorginho and Gabriel Martinelli.
It was a second successive 4-2 defeat for Aston Villa at home and Marca were left less than impressed, stating that the game again showed the ‘shortcomings’ in Unai Emery’s side.
The big issue is in their defence, according to the newspaper, who say Mings and Konsa are ‘leading the way’ when it comes to not being good enough.
They made ‘several errors of interpretation’ as well as being late to cover teammates or committing various ‘inattentions’ and these all leave Martínez ‘in a bad position’.
As far as they’re concerned this is unfair on the World Cup winner, who not only deserves a change but should be playing for a team with ‘a better level’ both in terms of the squad and ‘historical importance’.
They believe it is no coincidence that Martínez is looking for a new club, having recently admitted he’d love to join PSG, and it has subsequently been reported Aston Villa are looking to sell him for the right price.
According to Marca’s information that price would be €40m so it will be interesting to see if anyone is willing to offer that for him in the coming months. Either way, they believe the goalkeeper has to get out of Villa Park, with the defence in front of him failing to live up to his standards.
