Leicester City are interest in Nantes goalkeeper Alban Lafont as he potentially looks to move on to shore up his candidacy as France’s next number one.
That’s according to Tribune Nantaise, who cover comments from journalist Simon Reungoat regarding Leicester’s interest in the keeper.
They explain that with Hugo Lloris and Steve Mandanda both announcing their international retirement, Lafont is now among the favourites to be France’s number one in the coming years.
He is set to be under the spotlight in the coming months, with his performances likely to be ‘closely watched’ by many of Europe’s top clubs.
His current deal at Nantes expires in 2024 so there is a chance Nantes will be forced to sell in the summer if he does not renew.
That could be the case as Lafont will have an ‘imminent need’ to think bigger than his current club if he is to succeed and establish himself as number one under Didier Deschamps.
Leicester are one of those reportedly ‘keeping a close eye’ on his progress and according to Reungoat, the Foxes have ‘recently come to collect information’ about the goalkeeper, although at the moment they are only ‘making enquiries’ and there are no ‘official negotiations’.
“Does his progress necessarily involve a departure from FC Nantes […] and where will he go?” he is quoted as saying on his podcast on Tuesday.
“I know that Leicester have made enquiries. It is one of the clubs that have recently enquired about Alban Lafont.”
