Nicolo Zaniolo’s relationship with Roma appears to have hit rock bottom, with the Leeds United target’s name and photos removed from his locker at their training ground.
Zaniolo was heavily linked with a move away from the Italian club throughout last month after an apparently falling out with those in charge.
Leeds were one of those named as suitors on deadline day, with a report today explaining that Roma had held contact with those in charge at Elland Road about a late deal.
That never happened as Leeds were unwilling to match Roma’s demands for a transfer at such a late point in the window.
Calciomercato now cover a report from La Repubblica which states things have gotten worse for Zaniolo in the last few hours.
The newspaper claims that Roma have in fact ‘removed his name and photos’ from the locker he occupied at their training centre for four years.
In short, they have made it clear that Zaniolo is ‘no longer welcome’ in Trigoria, a sentiment shared by the player as he also wants to leave. The situation ‘seems truly irreparable’ at this point.
He’s now at a crossroads in his career as he knows any departure is not easy to secure given Roma’s demands for him.
They are currently thinking of opening legal proceedings against the Italian side for the treatment Zaniolo has received from them and supporters.
At the moment it means the two parties are far apart and refusing to move, with it unclear how long they will continue with that.
What it has set up is a busy few months in which the player and Roma will be desperately looking for a way out, potentially giving Leeds a second shot at a player offered to them late in the January window.
