Two days ago, AS reported Chelsea had a ‘very satisfactory’ meeting with Barcelona star Gavi’s agent in Madrid three weeks ago.
On Wednesday, the same newspaper explained a new meeting is set to take place soon, where the Blues owner, Todd Boehly, wants to convey his side’s new project to the 18-year-old and his parents.
It was also stated the American billionaire wants to make the midfielder one of the highest paid players at Chelsea.
Journalist Xavier Bosch, writing in his column for Mundo Deportivo, says Gavi’s contractual situation has alerted top European clubs.
Last September, Barca extended the Spain international’s deal until 2026 and included a €1bn release clause. This wasn’t accepted by La Liga since the Catalan club failed to meet financial fair play regulations.
Bosch claims now that Chelsea believe Gavi’s clause of €1bn has ‘dropped’ to €50m, they have ‘decided to seduce’ the teenager to join them. The journalist doesn’t explain why the Blues believe there will be a drastic reduction in the clause.
Gavi sees how his legal situation at the Camp Nou is a mess and begins to listen to football experts such as Josep Maria Minguella, who thinks he “is not a player for Barca”.
Bosch says these are the arguments for him to listen to the approach from the Premier League. He further adds the money Boehly could propose to Gavi will never be offered by the Catalan club.
On the other hand, Gavi is clear he wants to stay at Barca. He wants to succeed at the Camp Nou, even though it would be easy for him to leave.
