Late on in the transfer window, Lazio were reportedly eyeing up a few moves that suggested they were trying to invest in the future, including taking a look at Celtic’s Rocco Vata.

The Glasgow born Northern Ireland U21 international who also has Albanian citizenship is a name a few at Parkhead will be familiar with, as the midfielder already has four first-team appearances for the club, all handed to him last year by Ange Postecoglou before Brendan Rodgers took over.

The Celtic youngster remains a firm member of the B team for now, but there is a level of excitement surrounding his potential, which is why the Champions League team are monitoring him, according to Corriere dello Sport.

In fact, the Italian newspaper suggest the Serie A side, while they didn’t get a transfer done, aren’t going to let go so easily.

They recall Lazio took a long hard look at two prospects on transfer deadline day, targeting Manchester City’s Oscar Bobb on top of Celtic’s Vata.

Regarding the latter, they explain to they readers that the 18-year-old has ‘attracted the interest of many international scouts’, meaning the Italians aren’t the only ones hovering.

Despite not striking deals for the youngsters, it’s pointed out ‘these are two names that could reappear in the coming months’.

That’s because ‘the hunt for young talent is parallel’ to adding to the first-team squad, and it appears that Lazio are going to monitor Vata for the foreseeable future, potentially making a move if an opening in their squad appears going forward.

While the January transfer window could be an option, it is explicitly stated that ‘it’s easier to talk about it again in the summer’, especially since the Celtic youngster’s deal currently expires in June of next year.
