Last month, journalist Pepe Elias stated Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso’s agent had held talks with Real Betis in Madrid.
Estadio Deportivo now state the La Liga side had informal contacts with the 28-year-old’s agent, and they are yet to open talks with Spurs.
Real Betis have regularly shown interest in Lo Celso ever since he left them for Tottenham in 2020.
The Argentina international wanted to return last summer, but his salary was a concern for Real Betis. He was eventually convinced to stay at Spurs after Ange Postecoglou promised him regular minutes, but that didn’t happen.
Estadio state ‘this is the chosen moment’ for Real Betis to advance the deal for the Spurs player. Their title says ‘a pact with Lo Celso’, and within the report, it’s claimed Real Betis and the player have an agreement that needs patience, and ‘on the other hand, speed’.
Lo Celso needs to be patient, while Real Betis have to speed up exit operations involving William Carvalho and Nabil Fekir to lower their wage bill. Carvalho has a deal in place with Manuel Pellegrini’s side to leave this summer.
The Spanish club have chosen this moment to make an approach for Lo Celso, and the report says ‘a pact’ with him forces them ‘not to waste any time’ to secure the deal.
Tottenham, for their part, could favour his sale, considering the South American’s contract lasts until 2025.
