Last week, Barcelona announced their sporting director Mateu Alemany will leave on June 30th and multiple reports from Spain insisted Aston Villa is set to be his next destination.
The chief has already ‘left’ for Birmingham to ‘finalise his move’ to Villa Park.
That’s according to Jijantes, relayed by Sport, who state the 60-year-old will close the deal with Aston Villa in the ‘next few hours’.
It’s further claimed the Spaniard has ‘total agreement’ with the Premier League side and is expected to sign a long-term deal with them.
Although Alemany’s idea was to join Aston Villa on July 1st, it’s ‘not ruled out’ he could arrive at the English club earlier than that due to their needs to shape up their squad for next season.
Alemany, as per the report, has been advising Aston Villa even before his move is made official. At Barca, he’ll only be consulted for the negotiations initiated by him.
The Blaugrana, down their end, are ‘clear that the situation must be resolved in the best way possible’.
They are already making advances to bring in a replacement for Alemany, and Deco seems to be the No.1 candidate.
