Never hopeless of bringing Thiago Silva back to the club, people at Fluminense continue to speak about the chance of signing the Chelsea defender.
This week, it were president Mario Bittencourt and director Fred who spoke to Cheguei Podcast about that possibility.
Bittencourt revealed some of the talks he’s been recently having with the Chelsea player, claiming a free release from the Blues is the only scenario where Silva could return to Brazil.
“Today, we can talk about it. Me, Fred and Marcão held a videoconference in January. I have a relationship with him, Marcão has a very strong relationship with him. He’s never hidden the desire to return, but he never said he would be back soon. He said he wanted to go to Europe to play in the World Cup and he did.”
“We said we’d like him to come this year. And he was honest, that he would renew the contract until the middle of 2024. What can happen in the middle of the road, which depends much more on him than on us, which is what happened with Marcelo. He was already agreed for the middle of the year, he called and said he would break the contract and came back.”
Former striker Fred, who’s now a director at Fluminense, claimed the club are ready to welcome him.
“Open arms. Thiago depends much more on him. The president talks to him.”
The quotes aren’t the only news this week that made Fluminense fans hopeful of Thiago Silva’s return.
Marcelo, who was mentioned by Bittencourt, shared on Instagram a story (via O Dia) where he proves to be in a video call with the Chelsea defender.
The former Real Madrid player did not tease about the transfer, only claiming the duo was having a ‘weekly chat’. However, it’s clear they probably talked about a potential move, and that’s only helping Silva’s social media to get flooded by Fluminense fans asking for his return.
